Mr. Rabbit and Mr. Bear

There was one season where Brer Fox told himself to plant a goober(peanut) patch. Brer Rabbit watched as the fox planted. Brer Fox noticed someone had been stealing from him, and he suspected rabbit but couldn't prove it. So, Brer Fox took a long walk and set a trap. When Brer Rabbit came down that way, he managed to be caught in the trap and swung from a tree. While he tried to think of a tale to tell Brer Fox, he saw Brer Bear coming that way. Brer Bear asked what Brer Rabbit was doing, and the rabbit said he was collecting money by scaring the crows away from the peanut patch. Brer Rabbit tricked Brer Bear into taking his place. Then Brer Rabbit went to Brer Fox and told him who has been stealing the goobers. Both went and saw Brer Bear hanging. Brer Rabbit told Brer Fox to hit Brer Bear in the mouth, which is exactly what fox did. Brer Rabbit hid in the mud because he knew Brer Bear would be after him. Brer Bear thought he was a frog and asked if he'd seen the rabbit. Brer Rabbit said he'd just gone. Brer Bear took off, and Brer Rabbit dried himself off and went home.

This story is making me find Brer Rabbit to be a little jerk. Brer Rabbit is so mean and doesn't care for others' pain as long as he gains something.

A Story about the Little Rabbits

The little rabbit children obeyed their father, Brer Rabbit, and mother. However, there was a day when Brer Fox almost harmed the little rabbits, while both parents were gone. The little rabbits were playing, and Brer Fox wanted to eat them, but he remembered Brer Wolf.

Brer was scared to eat them without an excuse. He cleared his throat and told them to break a piece of the sugar cane, but the little rabbits couldn't break it. Then a little bird came and told the little rabbits to gnaw at it with their teeth, and they brought it to Brer Fox.

He thought of another excuse, which was to take a sifter and fetch fresh water. Then the bird came and told them to fill it with moss and clay. They carried it to Brer Fox.

Brer Fox told them to put a great big stick and put it on the fire. They did so. The bird came sang how to make a fire.

However, Brer Rabbit came and Brer Fox knew the jig was up. Brer Rabbit told him he was lonesome without Brer Wolf, but Brer Fox left for home.
